OUR STORY

Outpost is a real estate investment company exclusively operating in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. Our mission goes beyond making money: we’re committed to putting space to its highest and best use. Many of our projects reach beyond office spaces and staff accommodation to promote urbanization and densification where it’s greatly needed. From housing a community of NGOs and small businesses, to building laneway houses, Outpost is always looking for the best way to use space and improve our community.

Our core business works to provide an affordable entrypoint into the cost-prohibitive Yellowknife real estate market. We do this by offering Northern businesses and their staff turnkey, flexible rental spaces, made possible by adapting the latest industry innovations — co-working, co-living, laneway housing, modular construction and more — to the NWT context. In addition, we the founders — I, the founder Robert Warburton (along with our team) — are active in the community sphere, penning articles, speaking on and advocating for ways to make Yellowknife a more accessible place to live.

Our goal? Build value, and change the face of the North.

MEET THE FOUNDER

Robert Warburton
Owner, Outpost | City Councillor, Yellowknife

Robert Warburton is a community builder and housing advocate based in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories. As the owner of Outpost, he leads projects that focus on adaptive reuse, housing innovation, and downtown revitalization, transforming underused or overlooked spaces into practical, high-quality homes and mixed-use developments. His work blends business acumen with a deep understanding of northern realities—where sustainability, affordability, and design must adapt to both environment and community.

Elected to Yellowknife City Council, Robert applies that same pragmatic vision to public service. He is a strong advocate for responsible growth, transparent fiscal management, and full cost recovery in municipal services, ensuring decisions today support long-term resilience. He champions evidence-based planning that balances economic opportunity with livability, helping shape a city where residents can thrive year-round.

Robert’s background in property redevelopment and community engagement has positioned him at the intersection of private-sector innovation and public-sector policy. Whether through Outpost projects or council initiatives, his goal is to create a Yellowknife that is vibrant, sustainable, and grounded in the realities of northern life—a city built not just for today, but for generations to come.
